Aligning Your Life With God

One of the challenges we all face is making sure that our lives do not get out of order. Just like your car, you have to take your relationship with GOD in for an alignment from time to time.

Habakkuk 2:1-2 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Here are some practical steps you can take to make that happen in your life.

The basic premise here is that alignment with God is “top-down” not “bottom-up”. In other words, we start with the highest priority relationships in our lives and we give our heart and energy to them first in order to walk the way GOD wants us to.

Everything in your life starts and ends with your personal connection to GOD

  1. Pray individually and ask GOD where your priorities should change in your personal relationship with Him

  2. Get together and share what He told you

  3. Agree on your spiritual priorities

  4. Establish a discipline around them (like daily prayer individually, prayer together, Bible study, Bible reading, etc)

  5. Hold each other accountable to spiritual growth

The next most important relationship in your life is your marriage partner

  1. Pray with God about your relationship individually

  2. Come together and share what areas need to improve and those you are thankful for

  3. Commit to making changes, and covenant together for a period of change

  4. Encourage one another and review progress in a monthly dialogue session

The things that you are steward over are largely in your home

  1. Pray with God individually on how you conduct your home, what changes would He make?

  2. Share your results and agree to a short list (top 2 or 3) of changes to make

  3. Set some goals around the changes, what things should become “visible”?

  4. Agree to an action plan around them, connected to what GOD wants for your family

  5. Involve the kids in helping you achieve the goals, and give them a role in the changes

  6. Challenge each of them individually to step up and help you

God wants our productivity to extend to every other area of our lives

  1. Pray individually about what priorities need to be set to help balance your work, your spiritual life, and your family

  2. Come together to share what things you need to work on

  3. Find common ground between you so you can encourage one another

  4. Complete a short list of priorities from your joint list

  5. Set some goals and actions

  6. Monitor your progress together on a Monthly basis
